Home Tooth Whitening vs. In-Office Tooth Whitening

The choice between home tooth whitening and in-office whitening is usually a matter of personal preference. If you have discolored teeth (Are You A Candidate for Tooth Whitening?), you will need in-office treatments for effective whitening. Otherwise it is a question of how white you want to go and how fast. Both methods allow you to choose the level of whitening you want.

Whitening your teeth at home

Our take-home whitening kits are nothing like the products that you can purchase over-the-counter. We create custom trays that hold the whitening gel evenly on your teeth, giving you consistent results. Our gel is also more effective. We are here to guide you and answer any questions you have along the way.

Whitening at home is a gradual process, so the results are more subtle and discreet. You choose how white you want to go, and the change happens over time, as you whiten daily. Many patients like this gradual effect and do not mind wearing the trays. It is also the less expensive option.

In-Office whitening

In-office whitening can have instant results. You can still choose your shade, so if you want subtle results, but want them fast, in-office treatments will work for you. However, you can also get very dramatic results and for most patients it takes just one visit.

If you have severe staining, in-office whitening is the best choice for you. For deep stains, such as tetracycline stains, or if you have very sensitive teeth, Dr. Walsh-Cole will recommend KoR Deep Bleaching which consists of two office visits and a short period of wearing trays at home in between. This system produces the most dramatic results and is even gentler on sensitive teeth than other whitening products. As with all of our whitening systems, you can choose the shade.
