Lumineers®

Encinitas, Carlsbad, and San Diego

At our comfortable San Diego office, Dr. Walsh-Cole is pleased to offer both porcelain veneers and LumineersĀ® to correct cosmetic issues including teeth that are:

  • Chipped or cracked
  • Gapped
  • Misshapen or irregularly sized
  • Discolored

While Lumineers offer similar aesthetic benefits to porcelain veneers, there are some key differences that make Lumineers more attractive to many of our patients.

Lumineers Placement

For the placement of porcelain veneers, some small amount of tooth enamel must be removed. This makes the procedure irreversible and can also result in some mild discomfort during the preparation phase. By contrast, Lumineers do not require the removal of tooth enamel. Not only can this make your procedure more comfortable, it also allows Lumineers to be removed at any time, making them completely reversible.

Like porcelain veneers, the placement of Lumineers takes two office visits. During your first visit, an impression is made of your teeth from which your custom Lumineers will be made. On your second visit, our San Diego cosmetic dentist will painlessly place your Lumineers, providing you with the straight, white, seamlessly beautiful smile you deserve. Best of all, Lumineers have been shown to last for upwards of 20 years, giving you a strong and beautiful smile for a longer period then can often be achieved with porcelain veneers.

Candidates for Lumineers

Lumineers are an ideal way to quickly and effectively correct a number of common cosmetic dental problems. However, they may not be right for everyone. Lumineers are thinner than porcelain veneers, making them less suitable for covering large gaps or severe tooth discoloration. In these instances, Dr. Walsh-Cole may recommend porcelain veneers due to their ability to address larger cosmetic issues.

No two mouths are the same. Dr. Walsh-Cole will carefully assess your smile and inform you of all of your options during your initial cosmetic dentistry consultation.
