Tooth-Colored, Metal Free Fillings

California including San Diego, Encinitas and Carlsbad

Small cavities in your teeth can be filled with beautiful tooth-colored, metal free fillings. These tooth-colored restorations are made of composite resin, the same material we used in dental bonding. Larger cavities are filled with porcelain inlays or onlays. If you have unsightly metal fillings or fillings that have failed, Dr. Walsh-Cole can remove your old fillings and replace them with beautiful, healthy porcelain or composite restorations.

Advantages

Tooth-colored fillings are color-matched to your teeth and appear seamless. While they are the most aesthetically pleasing choice, the real advantages are in the benefits to your dental health. Silver-mercury fillings can damage your teeth in many ways and may even compromise your overall health. The advantages to metal-free fillings include:

  • Beauty – they blend in with your natural teeth
  • Will not tarnish
  • Will not stain your teeth
  • Stable – they do not expand
  • Will not cause cracks or fractures
  • Protection – they will not allow food particles to enter your teeth
  • Inlays and onlays actually make your tooth stronger

Cavities are usually the result of decay, but they can also be the result of genetics. Detecting and filling small caries early prevents food particles from entering the tooth and causing decay and destruction. Fillings may prevent further damage to your teeth and help you avoid expensive dental work in the future.

However, in order to truly protect your tooth, your filling must fit perfectly. Dr. Walsh-Cole’s extensive training and the advanced technology in which she has invested allows her to create restorations with a perfect fit and bond. This means seamless fillings that you cannot see or feel. It also means the best protection for your dental health.

Fillings that contain mercury expand and contract when you eat and drink hot and cold foods and beverages. Even if they are a perfect fit when they are placed in your teeth, this instability means they can flex your teeth and may eventually cause fractures. Tooth-colored fillings do not share these properties and are stable.
